A Request From Minneapolis
A Request from Minneapolis
The true soullessness of this administration is on display here in Minnesota. And yet, in the nonviolent protests and in the care and support we show for our neighbors, we reveal the true heart of our country.
In a past webinar, I mentioned that I don’t believe this attempt at fascism has the numbers to hold the population in compliance. Minnesota is now the epicenter of this confrontation. In the face of great danger, ordinary people are showing up—not just to protest, but to protect and sustain one another. They are providing food, rides, safe places to stay, and so much more. I don’t see this simply as kindness; it’s defiance. That defiance threatens one of the core tenets of fascism—that causing harm to a few will silence the many.
Americans live within one of the most freedom-loving, individualistic cultures in the world. We are not the Germany of the 1930s, the Russia of the 1920s, or the Belarus of today. Tyranny—whether from the right or the left—will not take hold easily here. But that doesn’t mean the struggle will ever be easy. It will take all of us, together, to resist the erosion of our values.
Centered Wealth exists because we believe that in capitalist countries, one of our greatest levers for change is how we spend and invest our money. To send a clear financial message to those in power, Minnesota is calling for a general strike this Friday, January 23rd. If walking out of work or school isn’t feasible, please join us by not spending any money, not making financial transactions, and pausing investment activity for the day. The goal is to create a visible, measurable slowdown of commerce—to make our collective voice impossible to ignore.

Thank you to all our clients who have reached out. As with George Floyd, the summary execution of Renee Good took place just five miles from our office. Friends and clients have been detained; some cannot reenter the country. Others have had to close their businesses, and one was a direct witness to Renee’s death. We’ve watched our friends testify before Congress, weep on CNN, and speak truth to power in ways that would have felt unimaginable just a decade ago. I am both proud of and heartbroken for our city.
With much appreciation,
Jina
